What is Alabama Freedom Pass?
Alabama Freedom Pass is the official toll account and discount system for three major toll roads in the state: Montgomery Expressway (Millbrook), Emerald Mountain Expressway (Wetumpka), and the Tuscaloosa Bypass (Tuscaloosa). When you open a Freedom Pass account, you’ll receive a windshield sticker transponder for each vehicle you register. Simply place the sticker inside your windshield and you’re ready to go—no need to stop for cash or cards.
You can open either a Residential or Commercial Freedom Pass account:
Residential Accounts include:

- - $25 deposit to get started
- - Unlimited transponders per account*
- - 50¢ discount on every trip
- - Automatic replenishment of your balance
Commercial Accounts include:
- - Same benefits as residential, with a minimum 45¢ discount per trip

Freedom Pass App
Pay tolls right from your phone using the Freedom Pass mobile app—available on both Apple and Android devices. The app allows you to pass through any open lane, even if it’s unattended. Once your account and payment method are set up, the process is simple:
Locate Your Lane – Each toll lane has a unique Lane Locator Code posted as you approach.
Open the App – When your vehicle is first in line, tap “PAY” and enter the Lane Locator Code.
Confirm Payment – Tap “CONFIRM” only when your vehicle is directly at the gate. This ensures you’re not paying for the vehicle in front of you.
With Freedom Pass, there’s no more fishing for change or swiping credit cards. It’s the fastest, easiest way to get across Alabama’s toll roads.

Bestpass Fleet Toll Solutions
Bestpass is a third-party toll management option that operates with Montgomery Expressway and intended for commercial fleets and businesses. It functions similarly to Freedom Pass with electronic toll transactions however, account management, billing, and fleet tools are handled directly through Bestpass. Bestpass is best suited for fleet operators looking to manage toll activity across multiple facilities and multiple states through a single third-party account.
